Founded in 1924 in Herzogenaurach Bavaria by Adolf (Adi) Dassler, the company was formally registered as adidas AG on 18 august 1949. The name, doesn’t actually mean All Day I Dream About Soccer – it comes from “Adi” (Adolf’s nickname) and “Das” from Dassler.
The brand is easily recognizable by the three stripe design that is featured on all Adidas designs, starting with trainers and ending with football tops. The three stripes were bough from Karhu Sports Finnish Company in the 1950s.
Adidas football equipment is highly valued by most soccer teams, and has been used for decades. Currently the company supplies team kits for international football teams from Spain, Russia, France, Germany, Denmark, Greece, Romania, Argentina, Mexico, Scotland, Japan, Venezuela, South Africa and Ukraine.
Adidas Originals is the heritage line of Adidas, using the trefoil logo, and covering sports fashion styles and having a distinctively retro old school feel. The styles have strong references to the decades between 1940’s and 1980’s, and these products are highly valued by connoisseurs and not only.
Today, Adidas expanded its collections to include a range of purely fashion items – while initially the brand only produced items associated with sports. The best example items like this are the Adidas clothing hoodies, which can be used for sport purposes but also for everyday general wear. No matter the use, the brand still uses top class materials and all Adidas products have a distinctive style and feel.
Aiming to produce more fashionable items, Adidas Clothing started recently collaborating with sports apparel and fashion designers from all over the globe. In 2004 Adidas launched Adidas by Stella McCartney line for women, and in the summer of 2009 it launched a sophisticated clothing line designed by Britain’s fashion designer Lawrence Dawanyi. No matter the collaborations, Adidas has always emerged as a power in sportswear and not only, and during its long history of over 6 decades, became a well known brand that gives strong indicators that it will still be known for the next decades.
