Aertex UK is a British clothing company based in Manchester that has been around for over a century. The company is best known for its self design trademark Aertex fabric a very light and loose woven cotton material. Aertex UK was founded in 1888 by Lewis Haslam, a mill owner and politician that created the Aertex Cellular material
The brand became famous when The British 7th Armored Division wore shirts and jackets made by the company. Later on, in 1950s Aertex’ fame was further increased by the men and women that were at the front line of the fashion revolution and were wearing shirts made by Aertex UK.
In the 1960s Aertex became very popular in schools and had started to be used in sporting tournaments and events culminating with the Wimbledon and the English World Cup. In the disco era of the 1970s Aertex UK became famous worldwide and was used by all the England squad at the FIFA World Cup in 1970 and was later on used by football legend, Pele.
With the 1980s also came yet another fashion revolution that saw the fall of the teenage market and the rise of designer labels but Aertex UK’s fame continued to climb as former Manchester United and England national team’s star George Best wore Aertex in 1981.
The 90s were also a favorable decade for Aertex as it became more popular in schools with a range of hard but breathable items used in school wear. Nowadays Aertex UK is becoming more and more popular, being worn by a variety of celebrities ranging from TV presenters to rugby legends and it is available in over 70 countries.
