The fcuk clothing line is available trough the company’s own stores and major department stores, and is highly popular due to the acronym used instead of the French Connection name on their clothing line. The use of fcuk to market the brand began in 1997 and was a huge success, even if the acronym itself caused controversy. An extremely popular range of t-shirts with messages such as "fcuk this", "fcuk fashion", "mile high fcuk", "hot as fcuk", "too busy to fcuk", "Fun Comes Usually Kneeling", "lucky fcuk", "fcuk on the beach", "Cool as fcuk", was produced. The company also used regionally specific messages. In the UK "fondle constantly until knackered", "fcuk in hull" and in Australia "no fcukin worries" and "fcuk off". The same marketing move was used when the fist San Francisco store was opened in 2001, big banners with "San Francisco's first fcuk” being hung on the front of the newly opened store.
fcuk acronym history and brand identity
French Connection created its own brand identity, one that is stylish, sexy and has attitude – as proven by the bold messages used on the fcuk t-shirts.
The fcuk acronym stands for French Connection United Kingdom, and was first used in a fax sent from French Connection’s Hong Kong offices to the UK. The fax said “ from FCHK to FCUK”. This led to the introduction of this acronym in the brand’s clothing line, making French Connection and easy recognizable name alongside the French Connection logo.
