Y3
In October 2002 a new cooperation in sport and fashion was born, with the launch of the Spring/Summer 2003 Y-3 men’s and women collection. This was a collaboration between the authentic sports brand Adidas and world renowned Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto that revolutionized the industry, creating a new category within fashion. Yohji Yamamoto represents design and Adidas represents sport, while both are symbols of extraordinary craftsmanship. Together, the two forces developed the future of sportswear. Combining traditional Japanese tailoring and aesthetic design, Yohji Yamamoto’s creations are unique pieces of craftsmanship.

Each Y-3 collection has an evident utilitarian inspiration and a technical feel that provides contemporary sportswear with a unique look. September 2004 was the time when the first Y-3 monobrand stores emerged on the market. Yohji Yamamoto’s city of residence, Tokyo, saw the first flagship Y-3 store located near Yohji’s own signiature store. More retail stores soon opened in Beijing, Paris, Miami and Manchester in 2007, and New York embraced the first Y-3 store in February 2008, just to allow the opening of a second store in SoHo the following September.
2009 was a year when Y-3 stores opened in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Singapore. 2010 is the year when Miami saluted the second Y-3 flagship store located in Miami's 1111 Lincoln Road retail and residential structure on South Beach. The second Miami store was entirely designed by de Meuron and Herzog. More Y-3 stores are to be expected to be opened in other major cities in Asia, Europe and the US, as Y-3’s collection of men’s and women’s footwear, apparel and accessories continues to grow and evolve following Adidas’ innovation and expertise in sport functionality and Yohji Yamatoto’s unique sense of style.

Adidas

Listed as the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe, with revenue of €10.38 billion in 2009, the Adidas Group consists of Reebok Sportswear Company, Rockport and TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company.
Founded in 1924 in Herzogenaurach Bavaria by Adolf (Adi) Dassler, the company was formally registered as adidas AG on 18 august 1949. The name, doesn’t actually mean All Day I Dream About Soccer – it comes from “Adi” (Adolf’s nickname) and “Das” from Dassler.
